How to Enter:

  1. Please complete the following directions correctly and thoroughly to avoid disqualification.

  2. Register your publication by purchasing an ASPA Membership. You can check your membership status via the Member Directory page.

  3. Include the paper entry form with the book and full payment for all selected contest fees and return postage.* (*Return postage is only required if you are not attending the 2024 State Convention in Little Rock, Arkansas, on April 25-26, 2024).

  4. Include at least one (1) complete physical copy of your school’s 2022-23 academic year literary magazine and/or yearbook. Publications may also submit a digital version in addition to the physical book.

  5. Email Charli Thweatt for an invoice request and include additional elective services to be listed. I.e., critique service tier, return shipping, etc.

  6. Please email Renette McCargo or Charli Thweatt for contest information or general questions.

Literary Magazine & Yearbook

Contest Run Dates:

Early: Aug. 30 - Oct. 29, 2023
Late: Oct. 30 - Dec. 09, 2023

  • Publications must have an active 2023+ ASPA Membership to participate in ASPA-sponsored contests and events.

  • All early entries must be postmarked on or before October 29, 2023.

  • All late entries must be postmarked on or before December 09, 2023.

  • Only on-time entries will be accepted, and the deadline will not be extended past December 09, 2023.

Entry Fees

  • Each entry must be accompanied by the contest general entry fee ($6.00 Early or $15.00 Late) and any other selected fees.

  • NOTE: Critique Services will not be offered for entries received after the Dec. 09, 2023 deadline. We offer a critique service for literary magazines and yearbook publications. This service will provide all entrants who pay for this additional service with cover-to-cover feedback from judges. (This is a third-party service).

  • Return Postage: This charge is only for those not attending the 2024 State Convention in Little Rock on April 25-26. If a designated person cannot pick up any mail-ins, awards, etc., ASPA reserves the right to withhold all items until return postage fees are paid.
